A quiet revolution is taking shape in India’s tech world – one led by young women who are breaking barriers, pursuing engineering, and reshaping what the country’s digital future looks like.
But for many of these bright minds, the dream of becoming an engineer often ends before it begins – blocked by financial challenges or the absence of mentorship and exposure.
To change that, the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) Scholarship Program has taken a major step forward. The initiative has announced an expansion, opening 500 new scholarships for the 2025–2029 academic cycle, ensuring that hundreds of deserving female students can continue their journeys in computer science and IT engineering without limitations.
A Program That’s Changing Lives
This milestone follows the success of AFE’s very first graduating class. Over 80% of the 200 graduates from the initial batch have already found placements with Fortune 500 companies – many within Amazon itself.
“Amazon is deeply committed to fostering diversity in India’s tech workforce by creating pathways for talented young women who might otherwise be excluded from the country’s digital revolution,” said Prateek Agarwal, Amazon Future Engineer Lead, Amazon India.
“Seeing these scholars, many of whom are first-generation college graduates from tier-2 and tier-3 cities, transform into confident tech professionals demonstrates the impact of providing equal opportunities in education and career development. Their success shows what happens when opportunities meet potential: exceptional talent emerges regardless of background.”
Beyond a Scholarship – It’s a Launchpad
The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship isn’t just about financial aid – it’s a complete support system designed to help students grow personally and professionally.
Each scholar receives:
- ₹2,00,000 in financial support over four years
- A new laptop to aid their learning
- Access to technical bootcamps that bridge skill gaps
- One-on-one mentorship from Amazon engineers
- A paid internship opportunity with Amazon after the first year
This mix of mentorship, skill development, and real-world experience turns each scholarship into a life-changing opportunity.
Building Futures, Together
Amazon has partnered with the Foundation for Excellence (FFE) to ensure the right students are given this opportunity through a transparent and merit-based selection process. The partnership focuses on identifying young women from financially constrained backgrounds with strong academic and leadership potential.
According to Ram Kolavennu, CEO of the Foundation for Excellence,
“The program’s success lies in its comprehensive approach. By integrating financial support, mentorship, and real-world experience at a global technology leader like Amazon, this program empowers talented young women from low-income backgrounds with transformative opportunities. It’s not just shaping bright engineers but also technology leaders of the future.”
The next batch of scholars will be announced in early 2026. If you know a first-year female student pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science or IT, this could be her turning point.
