Bengaluru – This Ashadhi Ekadashi season, Bengaluru will once again immerse itself in the divine sounds of devotion as Pancham Nishad presents the much-loved ‘Bolava Vitthal’ – an evening dedicated to soulful Abhangs and the timeless spirit of Varkari Bhakti tradition. The concert will be held on Friday, 27th June at 6:30 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Auditorium, Malleswaram.
Now in its 20th edition, Bolava Vitthal has travelled across India since 2005, transforming concert halls into spaces of spiritual communion. The Bengaluru leg will feature renowned artistes Anand Bhate, Mugdha Vaishampayan, and Prathamesh Laghate, each bringing their unique voice and interpretation of the age-old Abhang tradition. They will be accompanied by a stellar team of instrumentalists: Prasad Padhye (Tabla), Sukhad Munde (Pakhawaj), Aditya Oke (Harmonium), Shadaj Godkhindi (Flute), and Suryakant Surve (Additional Rhythms).
“Bolava Vitthal is not just a concert; it’s an emotional offering,” says Anand Bhate, the acclaimed Hindustani vocalist and disciple of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. “When I sing Abhangs penned by revered saints like Dnyaneshwar, Tukaram, or Namdev, I feel as though I am part of a centuries-old conversation with the Divine.”
Mugdha Vaishampayan, a young powerhouse of devotional music, shares, “There is something magical about the energy of Bengaluru audiences. They don’t just listen — they absorb every note. I’m honoured to be part of this bhakti yatra.”
Prathamesh Laghate, known for his deep emotional connect with Marathi poetry, adds, “To sing Abhangs is to relive the spiritual journeys of saints. And to sing them in front of an audience that values the depth of this music — that’s a blessing.”
The event is curated by Shashi Vyas, Founder and Director of Pancham Nishad Creatives, which has been at the forefront of Indian classical music presentations. “Bolava Vitthal was born out of a simple thought – to bring the spiritual resonance of Abhangs from temple courtyards to concert stages,” shares Mr. Shashi Vyas. “The response from Bengaluru has always been deeply encouraging, and we’re glad to return this year with such a stellar line-up.”
