Paritosh Painter’s latest theatrical production, Nathuram Godse Must Die, has opened to full houses and rave reviews from critics, celebrities, and audiences alike. Adapted and directed by Bharat Dabholkar, and produced by Sejal Dipak Painter, this English play delves into one of the most explosive and debated moments in Indian history.
Inspired by the iconic Marathi play Me Nathuram Godse Boltoy, which ran for 25 years, Nathuram Godse Must Die is based on Gopal Godse’s book May It Please Your Honour. The story presents a factual account of the events surrounding Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, examining both sides of this historical incident using references from court records and authentic documents.
The play aims to provide a balanced, impartial portrayal without taking sides or condoning illegal actions, giving voice to a perspective long silenced. Featuring a talented cast from Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, and English theatres, including Vikas Patil as Nathuram Godse and Anant Mahadevan as Mahatma Gandhi, the performances have left audiences moved. The play is accompanied by an original score by award-winning music directors Sai-Piyush, recently recognized in Forbes.
With its powerful stagecraft, Nathuram Godse Must Die is an unmissable experience, shedding light on a controversial chapter of Indian history. It’s a must-see for all generations, offering deep insights and evoking strong emotions.
