‘Devi Chowdhurani’ unveils its first song: Durgamo Giri Kantar Moru – a soul-stirring ode to courage and nationhood

The makers of Devi Chowdhurani, one of the most anticipated Bengali films of the year, have unveiled their first song Durgamo Giri Kantar Moru, and it is nothing short of a masterpiece. The powerful composition interweaves the immortal verses of Kazi Nazrul Islam with the patriotic spirit of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Vande Mataram, brought to life in a spellbinding reimagination by percussion maestro Pandit Bickram Ghosh.

The song brings together a stellar line-up of celebrated voices like Iman Chakraborty, Timir Biswas, Durnibar Saha, Ujjaini Mukherjee, and Pandit Bickram Ghosh himself, whose collective energy infuses the track with depth, devotion, and grandeur.

A true celebration of Bengal’s literary and musical heritage, Durgamo Giri Kantar Moru evokes the struggles and triumphs of a nation while reflecting the indomitable spirit of Devi Chowdhurani, the film’s central character. The music video, beautifully captures this essence, blending visuals with soaring rhythms to create an immersive experience.

Produced by ADited Motion Pictures in association with LOK Arts Collective, the track is a testament to meticulous artistry. With all percussion instruments and programming helmed by Pandit Bickram Ghosh, melody programming by Kunal Das, recording and mixing at Pandit Bikram Ghosh Studios, and a compelling video edit by Rick Basu, the song stands as a confluence of tradition and modern musical sensibilities.

Speaking on the song’s release, Prosenjit Chatterjee shared: “A film like Devi Chowdhurani is more than just cinema. Through this song, we’re reminded of the courage that lies within every woman who dares to rise against injustice. Bringing Bankim Chandra’s immortal story alive for today’s generation has been one of the most profound journeys of my career. I believe this film will spark pride, reflection, and inspiration in equal measure.”

Bikram Ghosh shared, “Durgamo Giri holds a deep patriotic resonance for every Bengali-speaking soul, being one of Nazrul Islam’s timeless creations. When Subhrajit approached me to reimagine it, after many discussions, we decided to blend it with Vande Mataram. The arrangement carries a unique flavor woven with classical nuances and folk textures that makes it all the more special. Crafting this piece has been a truly enriching experience, and I sincerely hope listeners will feel the same magic in this melody as we did while creating it.”

The film brings together a stellar ensemble cast led by Srabanti Chatterjee in the titular role of Devi Chowdhurani, alongside powerhouse performers like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Arjun Chakrabarty.

Devi Chowdhurani marks the first Indo-UK collaboration in Bengali cinema. With world-class production values, stirring music, and a powerful narrative, the film is poised to redefine period epics in the industry.

The film is set to release this Durga Puja, making it one of the most anticipated festive releases of the year.
