New Delhi, August 16, 2025 – The 79th Independence Day celebrations at Punjab National Bank’s Head Office in Dwarka took on a special glow this year as Shri Ashok Chandra, MD & CEO of PNB, honoured Sudhir Saxena, India’s renowned kickboxing star, for his exceptional achievements in the sport.
The felicitation ceremony, held after the flag-hoisting and cultural program, recognised Sudhir’s recent international and national victories, including his bronze medal win at the Asian Kickboxing Championships in Cambodia (2024), silver at the 4th India Open Kickboxing Championship (2025), and bronze at the Seniors and Masters National Championship in Raipur (July 2025).
From a Village in Ballia to the Global Arena
Born in Lahasani village, Ballia (U.P.), Sudhir’s journey is one of grit, sacrifice, and relentless determination. From limited resources to battling career interruptions, he has fought his way back into competitive sports, proving that persistence can conquer the toughest challenges.
Words of Praise from PNB Leadership
While honouring Sudhir, Shri Ashok Chandra said,
“Sudhir’s journey embodies the true spirit of India — resilience, courage, and pride. On this Independence Day, it is a privilege to celebrate not just our freedom, but the achievements of citizens like Sudhir who make our tricolour shine brighter on the global stage.”
Acknowledgements and Gratitude
Sudhir expressed heartfelt thanks to Punjab National Bank for its sponsorship and moral support during key stages of his preparation. He also recognised his coach Yoginder Singh, Shri Vijay Kumar, and friends Mahesh Verma, Sumit Chaudhry, and Mayank Madhur for their unwavering belief in him.
Most importantly, he dedicated his achievements to his wife Priyanka Gautam, his father Shri Suresh Saxena, and the Gauravi Foundation, all of whom have been pillars of strength throughout his journey.
Beyond the Ring
Beyond sports, Sudhir continues to contribute to society through philanthropy and youth mentoring. He works extensively with NGOs across India, runs self-defence programs for girls, and supports young athletes from rural areas to pursue their dreams without financial burdens.
Pillars of Strength Behind Sudhir Saxena’s Journey
Sudhir Saxena credits much of his success to the unwavering support of those who have stood beside him through every challenge. He extends heartfelt gratitude to his wife Priyanka Gautam, whose constant encouragement has been his greatest source of strength; to the Gauravi Foundation for their steadfast backing in his sporting and social initiatives; and to close friends Vijay Kumar, Mahesh Verma, and Govind Kumar for their belief in his journey and tireless motivation during the toughest phases of his career.
A Moment to Remember
