Star Kids and Struggles in Showbiz: A Conversation on Privilege and Opportunity

In today’s entertainment landscape, achieving success often involves navigating a world of privilege. Whether it’s having a famous parent who paves the way or being a “star kid” catapulted into Bollywood, privilege can certainly open doors. Even those who face setbacks often receive multiple chances to relaunch their careers. However, once the camera starts rolling, it’s ultimately talent that determines your future.

Filmmaker Pooja Bhatt recently weighed in on this topic through Freddy Birdy’s post, emphasizing that while privilege can provide an initial advantage, it doesn’t guarantee success. She stated, “No matter who your parents are, when it’s time for the director to call ‘action,’ you’re on your own. The audience ultimately decides your fate. You may get launched and relaunch repeatedly, but without the ability to connect and resonate with people, whether on the big screen or TV, longevity is unlikely.”

Actor Uorfi Javed engaged in the conversation, agreeing with Freddy’s observation about the unique opportunities afforded to star kids. She reflected on her own journey, highlighting the stark differences in career trajectories for those inside the industry compared to outsiders.

The discussion gained traction when Samantha Prabhu shared the post on her story, and Indian fashion designer Kresha Bajaj also expressed her appreciation for the insights shared on her Instagram.
