Naaag Nithin is a Tenali-born Telugu actor, theatre writer, screenplay writer and filmmaker steadily building a distinctive career across acting, writing and direction. With experience in theatre, documentary filmmaking and Hindi and Telugu cinema, Naaag is now moving into independent direction with projects such as ANANKE, while continuing his work as a lead actor in the upcoming Telugu feature film Trilochana.
Naaag Nithin’s Journey from Acting to Theatre
Hailing from Tenali, Andhra Pradesh, Naaag began his creative journey through acting. He played the lead role in the Telugu short film Yekkada Dongalu Akkade in 2018, marking one of his early steps into professional filmmaking.
His interest in performance soon expanded to theatre. At Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, Naaag portrayed the legendary King Satya Harishchandra in a stage production. His theatre experience became an important foundation for his understanding of acting, dialogue delivery, dramatic structure and character psychology.
His association with theatre writer and director Umesh Bhatia further strengthened his creative development. Working closely with theatre practitioners gave Naaag an opportunity to explore screenplay writing while contributing to theatre productions and developing a deeper understanding of storytelling.
From Theatre to Screenwriting and Filmmaking
Naaag later expanded his work into documentary filmmaking through DHENU (2024), a National Geographic documentary exploring the cultural and social significance of cows in India. The project introduced him to a different form of visual storytelling, where observation, authenticity and real-world narratives play a central role.
In 2025, Naaag took another major step by joining the Hindi art film Antrik as Screenplay Writer and Associate Director. Directed by Umesh Bhatia and produced by White Canvas Movies under AN Entertainments, the film received an official selection at the Jagran Film Festival and was recognised as Best Art Film in Varanasi in 2026.
Naaag’s contribution as a writer also received recognition in 2026, when he was honoured as Best Screenplay Writer alongside director Umesh Bhatia at a film recognition event in Varanasi. The recognition marked an important milestone in his development as a filmmaker and storyteller.
ANANKE Marks a New Chapter as Director
Naaag is now stepping further into independent filmmaking with ANANKE, an upcoming short film in which he takes on the responsibilities of Writer, Screenplay Writer and Director.
The project explores psychological and philosophical ideas, reflecting Naaag’s interest in stories that encourage audiences to look beyond the surface. Rather than restricting himself to a single genre, he is developing narratives that combine strong characters, ideas and cultural influences.
His larger ambitions include an original Telugu mythological saga set in Kashi. The project aims to bring together the spiritual and cultural atmosphere of the ancient city with mythology, human relationships and contemporary dramatic storytelling.

Alongside his writing and directorial ambitions, Naaag continues to pursue acting. He is currently playing the lead role in the upcoming Telugu feature film Trilochana, for which he is undertaking extensive character preparation and a method-oriented approach to performance.
His experience across different aspects of filmmaking has helped shape his approach to acting. Theatre has strengthened his understanding of performance, while screenplay writing has helped him approach characters and narratives from a writer’s perspective.
